Mr. Mahesh Dadasaheb Yadav ( Founder & Managing Director )
SPARSH Balgram was formed in 2008 by Mr. Mahesh Dadasaheb Yadav and by his wife Mrs. Sujata. Both work together in this endeavour towards rehabilitating children affected by HIV/AIDS. Sujata’s parents expired due to AIDS, and when she started living with Mahesh after marriage, they were asked to leave the village due to poor knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS and were thought to spread the disease among other people. They left the village and after short stints with not-for-profit organisations, the couple founded SPARSH Balgram, to rehabilitate children suffering from this deadly disease. The founders of this organisation works dedicatedly to do away with the stigma attached with HIV/ AIDS and giving the children a lease of life— a life with ostracism and one with a hope for tomorrow!
Every child is special and deserves to lead a life of compassion, folic, and no child must ever have to bear social ostracisation. SPARSH (Shelter and Rehabilitation Center for HIV/AIDS infected children) Balgram is dedicated to eradicating the stigma and rehabilitating children and giving them a regular life.
Founded in 2008, SPARSH has so far rehabilitated 250 children in the society and there are currently 17 children living in their care. The children are HIV/AIDS affected children who apart from suffering from a deadly ailment, have to face the wrath of uninformed people of the society and in turn face ostracization due to the stigma attached to this medical condition. SPARSH works round the clock to ensure normal childhoods to these children and also cares for their nutritional, education and recreational needs. The organisation enrols the children to local government schools and are taken to picnic and beach excursions regularly. The children are given vocational trainings in art, craft, dance and also are taught English speaking skills.
Located in Pune, SPARSH has children coming into their care from distant villages where there are certain communities which believe HIV/AIDS to be a communicable disease and distance themselves from caring for the children. ‘SPARSH’ means ‘touch’ and the children need to be touched with humility, compassion, love and tenderness— so that they live their lives just like any of us, amongst us!
