Her goal in establishing the well-planned Light of Life Trust in 2002 is to target and break the cycle of generational poverty. Her focus has always been to provide a life of dignity to the women and children. She has greatly contributed in the attempt to transform the lives of the underprivileged community – one life at a time.
India’s underprivileged population is deprived of not just some necessities but of most of them. Thus it is this encompassing goal that the Light of the Life Trust seeks to fulfil as it aims to uplift the underprivileged section with a vision to give them a better state of living.
Founded by Villy Doctor in 2002 and duly registered under Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950; the two initiatives are taken up to operate the goals are Project Anando and Project Jagruti.
Project Anando started in 2005; focusing entirely on education. Following the 3E approach of Educate, Empower and Equip for Employability; the students are exposed to holistic development and encouraged to become financially independent after completing their basic education. Around 12627 children and 631 teachers have been influenced directly by this project while 108739 community members have been indirectly reached out across 560 villages.
Project Jagruti that has influenced over 103680 lives is a multi-layered community development approach. This project provides livelihood training courses like Sewing, Computer training, Bike repairing, Agriculture training, Jewellery making etc that aims at financial independence of the unemployed youth as well as women and girls through skill development. Till date, 6293 students have been enrolled with 3020 being placed successfully.
The next approach is to provide basic healthcare and awareness through the Medical Mobile Unit initiated in 2013 that aids in eye inspection, haemoglobin screening tests, cardiac camps, dental hygiene etc in negligible or no cost. It has to its credit over 39663 patients and beneficiaries in Maharashtra.
The well-defined project finally culminates through its contribution to Environment Conservation; first initiated in 2015. Till date around 142295 fruit-bearing saplings have been distributed to 3440 poor farmers in Raigad District to provide them with an alternate income source. Training on capacity building and farming practices have also benefited these farmers immensely.
As such this NGO operates at the grass-root level to transform the lives of the poverty-stricken population to give India a better future.
