ANITA MAHAJAN ( Founder & Managing Director )

From the Founder’s Diary

In a society that is often reluctant to address issues like intimacy, sexual health and menstrual hygiene, Miss Anita Mahajan, founder of Anu Education Society try to make people look beyond these social stigmas and initiate conversations and spread awareness. She has a long & vast experience of working for and closely with the marginalised sections of society. The thought of bringing about and sparking a change in the world hit Anita quite early in her life. She has been working for social causes since her college days and her willingness and enthusiasm hasn’t dimmed a bit. She has been working for the cause of AIDS awareness, T.B. awareness and general overall health and hygiene of adolescent girls and ladies. She has dedicated her life for the social cause of society and wants to continue doing so until she can.

In 1985, During a time when ‘feminism’ and ‘women empowerment’ were mere concepts for a large part of Indian society, Anu Education Society was registered. A non-profit organisation, Anu Education society works in the field of health, non-formal education and upliftment of women.

With a large population and insufficient work opportunities and education facilities, the unemployment rates are high and often people are trapped in a vicious cycle of poverty.
At this point, Anu Education Society steps in and aims to enhance the capacities, capabilities and skills of underprivileged and marginalized individuals, especially women and children so that they can become self-dependent and live a dignified and respectful life where they can afford basic amenities or facilities and do not have to be dependent on anyone.

The NGO also works towards restoring the dignity of the marginalized people and bringing them up to the level of respectable citizens. Another objective of the society is the protection of the environment. It undertakes steps to reduce pollution and toxic substances. It aims to continue the process of empowerment through volunteerism and a value-based approach, where people come together and share knowledge, skills and resources to build a better and equitable society.
